OUR APPROACH: A UNIQUE TOOL KIT

Our six-month program is comprised of two parts. The first part is hard skills training in green woodworking and assembly services for local sustainable companies. The second part is soft skills training which includes an introduction to yoga and a mindfulness practice which can be immediately applied at work and in life.

HARD SKILLS TRAINING:
WOODWORKING, DISCIPLINE, TEAMWORK.

Trainees have a higher chance to enter the job market empowered for success once they complete the 6-month Karma Builders program. During our program, Trainees experience, sometimes for the first time ever, a sense of work ethics, being part of a team, the importance of punctuality, the feeling of accomplishment that comes from working steadily through the day, taking direction from a supervisor, being supportive of co-workers, and overall respectful communication skills.

Through this experience, Trainees become equipped to enter the work force with the confidence, principals and skills necessary to get and keep a job after leaving the Karma Builders program.

SOFT SKILLS TRAINING:
YOGA, MINDFULNESS, KARMIC MANAGEMENT

During our program, we teach yoga and mindfulness meditation practices. Studies have shown both practices reduce stress, reactivity, increase resilience, help manage anger, teach self responsibility, create a positive outlook on life, and in the case of those formerly incarcerated, these practices have been shown to reduce recidivism. We share with Trainees our philosophy based in “Karmic Management”, a set of tenets derived from ancient principals. As the saying goes, what goes around comes around. We teach our Trainees how to build “good karma” within a buddy system designed to create support for one another. We encourage the planting of “Karmic Seeds” for lasting personal success. This can take the form of volunteer work, helping others or mentoring. The intention is that each Trainee becomes a “Karma Builder” in his or her own community.
